

8 November 2007 金融庁、NOVAと監査法人を調査 経営破綻した英会話学校のNOVAが、受講料を先取りする形で売上に計上するという独特の会計処理をしていたことから、金融庁は、NOVAと監査を担当した監査法人に対し調査を始めました。 NOVAの有価証券報告書によりますと、NOVAが採用した会計処理では、受講料の45%を「登録料」という名目で契約があった時期の決算期に計上し、実際に授業が行われる前に受講料を先取りする形で売上高を膨らませていました。 こうした会計処理は、教室の数が順調に増えている間は問題になりませんが、拡大路線が行き詰まった途端に資金繰りが苦しくなる要因となります。 金融庁は、今回のNOVAの給料の不払いや経営破たんの背景に、こうした独特の会計処理の方法があったのではないかとみて、NOVAの担当者や監査を担当し承認した監査法人を対象に事情を聴くなど調査を始めました。
